What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence tech has rapidly grown in recent years. It starts with applying science and engineering to give machines the ability to input data and make rational decisions based on the data given. Artificial intelligence has been equated to creating systems that think or act like humans, but the optimal approach that is strived for is a system that can think and act rationally all on its own.

Are you wondering what artificial intelligence can bring to the table? The applications are limitless, from computers that can take control of operations, self-driving cars, smart assistants, proactive healthcare management, and many more. The industries this technology can touch are endless.

History Of Artificial Intelligence

The term was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 when he participated in the Dartmouth Conference regarding artificial intelligence. In the 50s, humanity saw an explosion of artificial intelligence programs for mathematics, pattern recognition, and machine learning. In the 1960s, history saw another burst. The first industrial robot was created, the first expert system automating decision-making processes and problem-solving behaviour for organic chemists was developed, and the foundations for deep learning and neural networks were built.

The stage was set and in the decades to follow, advancements in the computing power to execute visions of systems for medical advancement, autonomous vehicles, humanoid robots capable of serving, conversing and translating followed suit. Machines like Deep Blue, which was the first computer to beat a chess champion, came to fruition, while machine-reading and unsupervised learning followed swiftly after.

Types of Artificial Intelligence

Reactive

As in the name, this type of artificial intelligence reacts to the input it receives with a predictable output. They will respond the exact same way every single time. Examples include your Netflix recommendation engine, and Deep Blue, IBM’s chess supercomputer.

Limited Memory

This technology learns from the past, building knowledge by observing the actions or data. Limited memory uses historical or observational data paired with a combination of pre-programmed information, making predictions and performing complex classification tasks.

Theory of Mind

This type of AI is meant to hold a meaningful conversation with a human being. It has the potential to have decision-making capabilities similar to a human while trying to empathize and connect on an emotional level during the conversation.

Self-Aware

This is still in development, but this type of AI will be aware of its emotions, others' emotions, and its current mental health. Currently, this is a dream, but who knows what the future might hold!

How Does Artificial Intelligence Help My Business?

Artificial intelligence immediately impacts your business by automating your business processes, gaining insight into the next steps for your company through data analysis, and has the ability to engage with customers and employees in real-time to save you time. Innovation through technology, artificial intelligence can give you the edge you desire.
